Job Posting: Hunger Prevention Community Navigator

ABOUT THE POSITION

Arm In Arm is seeking an experienced professional for the full-time, non-exempt position of Hunger Prevention Community Navigator. The applicant should have strong written and verbal communications skills. Fluency in English and Spanish is required.  The position will report to the Director of Hunger Prevention.

The Hunger Prevention Community Navigator helps to advance the mission of Arm In Arm and its Hunger Prevention Program by assisting the Director of Hunger Prevention to maintain and manage the operation of the food pantry, events, and related services, focusing on daily client service hours and preparation and closure of the pantry. He/she is responsible for providing case management including direct connection to food, housing, and work resources, as well as other resources that impact and can improve family stability.

  • Assist on-site at all pantry locations, helping to ensure community members experiencing food insecurity receive food and services
  • Assist with Mobile food distribution events
  • Support food pantry activities by working as needed including the unloading and storage of food, packing bags for distribution, greeting clients and conducting client intakes.
  • Pack bags with food for distribution to pantry clients
  • Provides liaison services between clients and other social service agencies
  • Present to community groups as requested
  • Lift food inventory, including cases weighing 25 pounds, throughout shift
  • Assist in outreach to schools, churches and civic organizations
  • Train and supervise volunteers
  • Maintain high level of hospitality for clients
  • Provide assistance with other projects as needed

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Understanding of issues of economic poverty, including hunger, food insecurity, housing instability, and homelessness as well as community responses and government programs that address these issues
  • Ability to work independently with strong sense of focus
  • Ability to build and/or work with a team to achieve results
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to motivate others toward achieving goals
  • Demonstrates consistent and reliable performance, including timely completion of duties
  • Microsoft Office proficient
  • Understands and conforms and complies with all standards and policies regarding confidentiality and record keeping
  • Able to communicate with Spanish speaking clients
  • Available to work late afternoons on weekdays and Saturday mornings as needed

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED and experience in social services
  • Satisfactory background clearance
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
