SNAP Benefits Are at Risk. Arm In Arm Is Stepping Up.
Due to the federal government shutdown, SNAP and WIC benefits are likely to be paused starting November 1. This will impact thousands of families in Mercer County who rely on these programs to feed their children and themselves. You may not know this but New Jersey is one of the 10 states that will be the most negatively impacted if these benefits are paused.
Without SNAP, families will be forced to spend significantly more on food—leaving them unable to pay rent, utilities, or healthcare bills. Some may face eviction or homelessness as a result. We already have seen an almost 20% increase in demand for our food services in last year so this will make things even more challenging for those we serve.
Arm In Arm is Mobilizing Now:
• Distributing emergency food and essentials
• Coordinating with local partners
• Keeping families informed with clear, compassionate updates
In response to the SNAP crisis, we are activating an emergency plan to serve 250 additional families weekly by extending pantry hours at two sites and bolstering our food resources, which requires more funding and more volunteers.
To do this for just one month will cost close to $50,000.
You Can Help Today:
- Donate Resources: Every dollar helps us stock shelves and meet urgent needs.

Your support—whether through a donation or by volunteering—makes a direct impact on our ability to respond quickly and effectively to meet this moment. Arm in Arm has been here and prepared to proactively respond to crises. We are here now and will be here and at the ready in the months to come as we all navigate these uncertain times together.
Together, we can ensure no neighbor faces hunger—or homelessness—alone.
